Manual Handling

We are all exposed to some form of manual handling, such as lifting, carrying, pulling, and pushing. These actions can be further compounded by movements like climbing or pivoting. However, incorrect techniques lead to significant consequences.

Personal injuries from poor manual handling account for over one million working days lost every year. Beyond the statistics, these injuries cause immense pain and suffering for the individuals involved. Fortunately, using correct manual handling techniques can make a huge difference in workplace safety.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has recognised these risks for many years. Consequently, they have developed strict regulations and advisory activities to promote good practice. Additionally, these regulations require employers to provide employees with comprehensive health and safety information. This training must be supplemented with specific guidance on manual handling injury risks and prevention.
